Fire Hose Reel System

A fire hose reel system is an integral part of fire safety measures in buildings, providing a controlled supply of water to combat potential fires.

Components:

  • Hose Reels: Ensure a reasonably accessible and controlled supply of water.

  • Control Nozzle: Allows the operator to control the direction and flow of water.

  • Mounting Bracket: Used to fix the hose reel in place.

  • Ball Valve Shut-off Device: Unique device to control water flow.

 

Installation Guidelines (Singapore):

  • According to the Singapore SCDF Fire Code, hose reels should be sited within 5m of the exit door but not inside exit staircases.

  • If parts of the floor space are beyond the 36m coverage of the hose reel, additional hose reels should be provided.

 

Maintenance:

  • Regular checks for easy access and functionality are essential.

  • It’s common to find violations like the storage of unauthorized objects near the hose reel, which can hinder emergency response.
